Spanish center, Willy Hernangómez, is in the midst of his second campaign with Barcelona, having returned to Europe after several years in the NBA.
The 2022 EuroBasket MVP has faced a challenging adjustment period, but he remains committed to the club and confident in his growth.
“I’m happy here in Barcelona, I really am. This is my second year and it’s been very tough for me, but I think it’s made me stronger and a better player. Now I’m getting more opportunities and I’m ready for whatever the team needs—like I’ve said all year. The only thing I want is to help the team win, and when it comes to hard work and effort, I want to give my best. I try to show that every day. Now that I’m getting more minutes, I’d like to keep contributing and help the team do well in the series against Unicaja,” Hernangómez told Radio MARCA.
Looking ahead, the 31-year-old center from Madrid made it clear that he sees his future in the Catalan capital.
“Here in Barcelona I have one more year left on my contract, and I’m happy. My focus here is to help the team and try to win the titles we haven’t been able to so far. Hopefully this year we can fight for the ACB title. But without a doubt, I believe next season will also be a great one. Fulfilling my contract is a priority for me.”
This season, Hernangómez has made 34 appearances in the EuroLeague, starting in just eight games while averaging 8.2 points and 4.1 rebounds. In the ACB, where Barcelona is preparing to take on Unicaja in the Playoffs, he has averaged 8 points and 5.7 rebounds across 29 games.
