Misdirection is the approach of Giannis Antetokounmpo to rumors about his future with the Milwaukee Bucks

With his teammate at the Milwaukee Bucks, Bobby Portis Jr., becoming viral, Giannis Antetokounmpo jokingly addressed offseason rumors, shifting focus from himself to the 30-year-old American forward.

“Don’t worry about me! What you doing Bobby, you staying or leaving?” the Freak wrote in an Instagram comment, referring to a player option worth approximately 13.4 million dollars for the 2025-26 season on the contract of Portis.

The veteran of 703 NBA games and former Arkansas standout previously pointed out that Giannis ‘bleeds green’ during an appearance on FanDuel’s Run it Back show.

His decision is likely to impact the Bucks, but will naturally fall well shy of a possible departure of the Most Valuable Player of the 2018-19 and 2019-20 season, and of the 2021 Finals.

The native of Athens, Greece, is under contract until the end of the 2026-27 season, worth approximately 160 million dollars, and controls an option of nearly 63 million dollars for the 2027-28 season. According to Portis, he intends to stay with the Bucks instead of seeking other options to potentially strengthen a bid for a second NBA championship.

In 72 appearances between the 2024-25 Regular Season and the 2025 Playoffs presented by Google, Antetokounmpo averaged 30.6 points, 12.2 rebounds, 6.5 assists, 1.2 blocks, and 0.9 steals per contest.

His 12th journey in the league based in North America ended in the Quarterfinals of the Eastern Conference, with the Indiana Pacers knocking out the team coached by Doc Rivers in five games.
